Since 1992, the Virginia Children’s Chorus has been teaching children of all backgrounds to sing with joy!

Through our educational program, VCC is committed to training young voices and offering extraordinary concert opportunities to children in grades K through 12. Our mission is to enrich the lives of participating children through the study of choral music and to share their love of music through performances in our community and in other parts of the world on tour. We offer tuition assistance to families in need so that any qualified child can be a part of our program. VCC’s auditioned singers come from every corner of Hampton Roads.

Auditions for VCC are held three times a year in January, June & August. Acceptance into the chorus is based on a child’s ability to hear and match pitches with their voice, overall voice quality, level of maturity and ability to make a yearlong commitment to the Chorus.

Children accepted are placed in an appropriate choir group based on age and ability: Beginning singers in Training Choir (Levels I and II), intermediate students in the Choristers and advanced students in the Concert Choir or Chamber Singers. The Chamber Singers is a small group consisting of boys with changed voices (or in the process of changing) and girls in 11th and 12th grades.

Chorus members receive weekly training during the school year in healthy vocal technique, solfége (sight-singing and ear-training), language and diction, expression and concert decorum. All choir levels sing in performances including our own fall and spring concerts, community concerts at Senior Living facilities, churches, with public school choruses with adult community groups such as the Sherman Greene Chorale and Symphonicity and professional concerts with the Virginia Symphony and the Virginia Arts Festival.
